Weight Loss Revolutionized?

We’re all familiar with the Morgan Spurlock adventure Supersize Me, where he subjected his body to non-stop nutritional abuse consuming nothing but McDonalds for an entire month. As a result of his experiment, besides gaining some 24.5lbs he also suffered from mood swings, sexual dysfunction and liver damage. While much of this came as no surprise, it did (if only for a short while) spur many to reconsider their nutritional habits. It is often the way with such ventures that we change our habits until the next calamity catches our focus (Michael Moore, Al Gore, the list goes on).
We may now have a new, if not unusual recruit to join the race, no doubt he is already being groomed to take the stage. Chris Coleson of Virginia has shed a whopping 80lbs in 6 months on a diet consisting almost exclusively of McDonalds. While not a mission that would appeal to me or anyone familiar with their ingredient list, on paper it is quite an achievement and if I met the fellow, I might even congratulate him. However, I am curious as to the state of his insides.
While Coleson’s wife may once again recognize the man she married, Coleson must be only one McSalad away from irreversible brain and liver damage, not to mention sexual suicide. On the contrary, perhaps the answer lies in perseverance, Spurlock was a quitter and only lasted a month while Coleson persevered and achieved his goal. After all, a wise man once said “Most people achieved their greatest success one step beyond what looked like their greatest failure.”
But really, I cannot advocate this and no one should attempt to repeat it. A healthy balanced diet and regular exercise is the only way to safely lose weight.
This month at ifoods.tv we are presenting a selection of healthy summer salads and healthier barbecue alternatives like our very own perfect burger*.
